When I met with the kids of Riverton High School in Utah on Feb. 10, 2010, we did a quick creative writing project. Here is the first paragraph of their new story. Lets add to it, Crystal Moon fans. | Print |

A thin mist slowly emerges from the thick marshy air, circling and cycling around the slime-coated head of a warty creature as he emerges from the filthy water. The oversized hunter slowly hobbles into the abyss of the slick cavern with his load of stolen treasure. SymLee tore off his eye patch, exposing the sapphire orb resting in the place of an old eye, allowing it to light the path ahead.

PLEASE ADD THE NEXT PART OF THE STORY... Keep it clean!

Quietly he shuffles deeper into the dark cavern, dragging his chest full of treasure behind him. It echoes loudly off the rocks and for a moment, SymLee pauses, taking quick glances around, checking for any other creatures nearby.

Despite his warty appearance SymLee was an extrordinary being. His ugliness hiding a keen intellect and centuries of experiance. He was only recovering what was his by right, some would say stealing, others would say collecting past dues. Feeling safe for the moment in his cavern he sat down and relaxed remembering when he was younger, before the curse of Gallrum...

When the world was still very very young, a beautiful and a happy place, SymLee's mind began to drift back to when he was very young, back then beings were not scorned for thier appearance, derided for thier misfortune. He was a youngster of only 123 years on his way to the river for an evening snack when he heard a plaintive cry, more of a sob of anguish, then sudden silence, someone in extreme pain yet trying desperately to hide it for fear of being discovered. He froze! Surely someone in this much pain must have a tormentor nearby and he wasn't the type to interupt someones dinner, but then again... There it was again! the plaintive hurtful, desperate sob. It was more than he could endure.

So Much so his heart was ripping in shared anguish. With his incredibly keen ears he easily traced exactly to the bushes where he heard the noise, slowy, so as to not frighten he parted the bushes and was met with the fearful gaze of a beautiful creature. PLEASE don't eat me she begged. It was obvious she had been in a fearful fight she was injured quite badly, one leg gashed and numerous scrapes, Please leave me... he will Kill you! PLease... SymLee could no more leave this poor creature than he could refuse free roofmoss, it just wasn't done. What was more his pride was hurt! Eat her indeed!! Only the uncivilized preyed on those who speak. By this time the creature had stopped sobbing and was eying him warily, fearful, yet somehow hopeful that maybe, just maybe, perhaps she had found kindness in a most unusually humble appearing Man.
